Rongai Route
Northern Approach
Approaches from the north with gentler slopes and drier conditions. Less crowded with good wildlife viewing opportunities in lower zones. 6-7 days duration.
Umbwe Route
The Challenge
Steep and challenging, suited for experienced climbers seeking a more direct and demanding ascent. The shortest but most difficult route. 5-6 days duration.

Wildlife
While wildlife is less visible at higher elevations, the lower forests are home to colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, buffaloes, elephants, and a variety of bird species. The mountain's diverse ecosystems support unique flora and fauna adapted to each altitude zone.
The lower slopes offer excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, with forest elephants occasionally spotted, along with leopards, bushbucks, and numerous bird species including the impressive crowned eagle.
